Vacation Recap (and even some Turquoise!)

I'm back!! What a vacation I had! I thought I'd share some pictures with you since all your advice was so helpful. We spent the first 3 days by the beach in Montauk (the very east tip of Long Island), but since we had a rental car we spent a lot of time in nearby Southhampton and East Hampton. What an absolute dream! All the houses you guys....whoa, I seriously could not handle all the coastal gems on the most gorgeous property I'd ever seen. It was insane. Way more beautiful than I imagined! One of the days we drove through East Hampton so I could do a drive-by of Grey Gardens. Because a lot of the leaves had fallen, I caught a great view of the beautiful home. I felt like I was meeting a celebrity! Nearby I also saw Martha Stewart's Lily Pond home, which I had blogged about before. So cool. We also made it down to Tate's Bake Shop in Southhampton to eat some delicious cupcakes, ate some amazing pizza at Sausages Pizza & Pastabilities in Montauk, and checked out the Wölffer Estate Vineyards just outside Bridgehampton and drank some of their tasty wine. We also spent a lot of time just walking along along the beach. I truly belong by the ocean! *sigh* It was such a relaxing, never-ending few days. So different than our non-stop, energetic next few days in NYC where we stayed in the Upper East Side in an apartment of a couple that was vacationing for the holiday. Very cool (and cheap!) alternative to a hotel! Highlights in NYC included ABC Carpet and Home (you guys were so right...that place is entirely magical!), dinner and frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity, Scott's Pizza Tour, the MoMA, Central Park of course, window shopping (drooling) on 5th Ave, Bloomingdales, a Crumbs cupcake, the Union Square Holiday Market, burger and malt at Stand, Fishs Eddy, Battery Park, Gracious Home, financial district and WTC area, tree/skating rink in Rockefeller Center, Times Square at night, walking around Greenwich Village and some fab shopping in SoHo. And to top it all off I ate a New York Bagel, Hot Dog and Pretzel (not all at once!). I can't even remember what else we saw...we were non-stop walking around all day and taking the subway all over the place. I loved it (my feet didn't!). Oh and we also saw the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. We got there at 5:30AM to secure a good spot, and boy was it! So much fun. Those balloons are huge!

And because this blog is dedicated to turquoise (and in real-life I DO point out every single turquoise thing I see), of course I took some turquoise pics to share with you!

One Lush Turquoise Bed

1-2-3....lets all jump in! Talk about cushy, cozy surrounded by the most heavenly turquoise fabric ever! I found this gorgeous bed over at Soicher Marin Says, where they featured work of Bliss Design. So many fluffy beds, I love it!

And with that, I'm finally off to New York!! I am leaving my computer at home, so you probably won't hear much of me for the next 10 days or so. I hope everyone enjoys their week, has a fantastic Thanksgiving, and scores some great deals on Black Friday! (I will have things auto-posting over on Everything Turquoise if you still need your daily turquoise fix!)

Cheery Bathroom

Isn't this bathroom that was featured on Decorology just so cute?! The fancy turquoise chair covered in terry cloth and shiny yellow chest of drawers really put a fun spin on the otherwise vintage-looking room. What a cool clawfoot shower too...have you ever seen one like that? I want one!

Taylor Howes Designs

Ever since the turquoise door post on Monday, I've been thinking a lot about turquoise and gold in home decor. How come up until now I only ever considered that combo for jewelry? This dreamy bedroom by Taylor Howes Designs out of London abolished any lingering fears I had. I adore those throw pillows, the mirror, the nailhead trim! It's all so elegant!

And thank you so much everyone for all your fab recommendations and advice yesterday on my upcoming trip to New York! I didn't think it was possible, but I'm even more pumped now!!

My Beloved...and your help!

I'm reposting my all-time favorite kitchen today along with a plea for your help! First things first, I fell in love with this kitchen by architectural designer Peter Napolitano and interior designer Thomas Britt back in April of last year, and have yet to spot another kitchen to replace it's #1 status. (ok, maybe this one by Jane Coslick...but that's in my vacation home...) This Greenwich Village kitchen is simply incredible...you must check out the before-and-afters over at Architectural Digest. Those windows...I would die. I seriously would.

Now your help! I'm actually visiting New York next week. I've spent very little time there, so I really would love to hear your advice/recommendations on what to see, where to go and what to stay away from! I will be spending 3 days on Long Island with a car, then 3 days in Manhattan without one. Anything you'd be willing to share, I'll eat up and be so thankful for! If you don't want to leave a comment, feel free to send me at email at erin@houseofturquoise.com. THANK YOU! :)

One Kings Lane

Can it get any more delightful than this welcoming image from One Kings Lane?! The dogs even have turquoise bows adorning their necks! Last Monday I posted another inspirational holiday image with silver, this one has gold. Which one do you guys prefer with turquoise? I'd have said silver, but this is looking mighty fine! Thanks Daniela!

As much as I love turquoise paired with totally different colors (pretty much every color, if you haven't figured that out by now...), I also have a big weakness for keeping things in the family. I've been super excited to do this post for awhile, but it's taken me a long time to collect the images. Currently I am completely crazy for turquoise paired with cobalt blue. It's been really hard to find pictures of that combo...but if anyone can find 'em, I will! Of course I always think it's fun to add a bright pop of yellow, orange or green in an otherwise blue room too. I hope you enjoyed all these cool blue rooms! Have a fantastic weekend everyone! :)
