Pantone Color of the Year for 2010: TURQUOISE!

We interrupt your regularly scheduled dose of turquoise to bring you this newsbreak: Pantone Unveils Color of the Year for 2010: PANTONE 15-5519 Turquoise. How utterly exciting is that?!

From their most-interesting press release found here:
CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 8, 2009 –Pantone LLC, an X-Rite company (NASDAQ: XRIT), and the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, today announced PANTONE® 15-5519 Turquoise, an inviting, luminous hue, as the color of the year for 2010. Combining the serene qualities of blue and the invigorating aspects of green, Turquoise evokes thoughts of soothing, tropical waters and a languorous, effective escape from the everyday troubles of the world, while at the same time restoring our sense of wellbeing.

“In many cultures, Turquoise occupies a very special position in the world of color,” explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “It is believed to be a protective talisman, a color of deep compassion and healing, and a color of faith and truth, inspired by water and sky. Through years of color word-association studies, we also find that Turquoise represents an escape to many – taking them to a tropical paradise that is pleasant and inviting, even if only a fantasy.”

Whether envisioned as a tranquil ocean surrounding a tropical island or a protective stone warding off evil spirits, Turquoise is a color that most people respond to positively. It is universally flattering, has appeal for men and women, and translates easily to fashion and interiors. With both warm and cool undertones, Turquoise pairs nicely with any other color in the spectrum. Turquoise adds a splash of excitement to neutrals and browns, complements reds and pinks, creates a classic maritime look with deep blues, livens up all other greens, and is especially trend-setting with yellow-greens. The last part in bold was my favorite! ;)

What a great day (ahem...year!) for turquoise!

2 Pretty Kitchens

One of my dreams in life is to have a pretty kitchen. Nothing fancy, just pretty. Every apartment I've rented always seems to have a really ugly kitchen. I swear if I could at least paint the cabinets white I'd cook more! (And oh the goodies I'd bake if I had the Martha Stewart Blue KitchenAid mixer!) To see more pretty kitchens, pop on over to Harper & Henny and Dream in Domestic where I found these lovelies!

Elizabeth Dinkel

I was going to include some of these images from the Veranda Showcase House designed by Elizabeth Dinkel in Friday's post dedicated to turquoise and gold, but I thought they were just too pretty not to post all on their own. I've blogged about this room in the Greystone Mansion before, but after learning who the designer was and seeing more images, I had to share the goodness!

Turquoise and Gold

Domino

You may remember a couple weeks ago I discovered the beauty of turquoise paired with gold, at least as far as home decor goes. Turquoise and yellow, we know that's a favorite of mine...and gold is pretty darn close to yellow, right? So I'm excused. Anyway, apparently I just hadn't been noticing it, because some of these images I saw when I first started this blog two years ago, some I've even blogged about before. I just completely overlooked the gold. I've never really liked gold...too gaudy or something for me. Until now. Now I'm a believer.

Windsor Smith

A few days ago Brooke of Velvet & Linen had one fantastic post all about Windsor Smith, including a great interview and fab-fab photos (a must-read after you leave here)! Brooke posted the above image from C Magazine of a Malibu beach home, describing how the moment she saw it was the moment she fell in love with the work of Windsor Smith. I'd never seen this beautiful room, but I remember the room that made me first fall in love...

Delight in White

The power of just a little turquoise! I love this crisp, light-filled white bedroom from Sköna hem. The texture and pops of color keep it far from bland, don't you agree?

Mark Olson

It's always hard to get back to work after vacation. I certainly can't complain about having to dig through images of pretty rooms to discover treasures like this bathroom captured by talented photographer Mark Olson. Such a sumptuous space to take a bath!
