ERIN AND I....LIKE MANY OF YOU...BONDED OVER A COLOR. AQUA. I love COLOR. I LOVE AQUA. I Love it in my Paintings... I love it in my home. AQUA. There is something very comfortable about those BEACHY colors...faded from love...the cast offs that often furnish beach homes, used and faded pieces that have already established themselves...classics...inherently soothing.

BENJAMIN MOORE - "THE BEACH BLUES ": BIRDS EGG, CLEAR SKIES, GOSSAMER BLUE, ICEY MOON DROPS, OCEAN AIR, PALLADIAN BLUE, SEAFOAM, SERENITY, TRANQUIL BLUE.

When I was contemplating what color to paint our newly renovated master bathroom this past Spring...I hoped that one of these colors would work with our Grey Master Bedroom. One of the colors in particular, "PALLADIAN BLUE", has been on my radar for a while...and then, when I was in Los Angeles this SPRING, I fell in love with the wall color of A store called...

"HOLLYWOOD AT HOME" and guess what.....

It was painted "PALLADIAN BLUE"!!!

I THINK YOU WILL AGREE, THE COLOR WORKS!

New Bathroom..including new ceilings!

When doing any type of Renovation, especially in KITCHENS AND BATHROOMS.... a SURE FIRE way to save BIG BUCKS is to utilize the existing footprint. ...moving plumbing is WHEN THE DOLLARS CAN START OT ADD UP! So, In this case, I looked EVERYWHERE to find a High Quality, Good-Looking Corner Shower unit which would line up with our existing shower drain. AND I DID IT!!!! I DID A "HAPPY DANCE" when the drains matched PERFECTLY!!!

I ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY AM IN LOVE WITH OUR SHOWER!!!

Shower- VIGO 47" X 47" NEO ANGLE SHOWER from BELLACOR. This is an item worth price shopping for. VIGO makes great products . This "KIT" came complete with everything except the faucets and shower head, and it was a fraction of the cost of buying the base and having glass cut.

SHOWER FAUCET- Listen up. ALL NEWLY INSTALLED showers must be PRESSURE BALANCE ones. But, the pressure balance showers do not work well in Big old Country Houses. In addition, the part that goes inside the wall was fine and did not need to be replaced. What I found out the hard way was that the external hardware for the NEW showers, often does not fit the OLD internal hardware. BUT, I after buying and trying and returning about 5 trim kits, I finally found one!! The MARIELLE BY PFISTER...IT fitS my American Standard internal unit...and I actually did another little happy jig the day I found it!!!!

The SUBWAY tile - from LOWES. gives the shower a Custom appearance and elevates the look.The tile comes in boxes of 100 tiles for around $21 by the individual tile for .22 cents each. AND You can return any tiles you do not use.Even if you just have 5 left! The decorative tiles around the center were a last-minute addition, I ran to Lowes to get some more caulk and these decorative tiles were on sale for 75 cents a piece vs the original $2.75. I thought they would make a nice addition and dress the shower up a bit. I LOVE them.

MASTER BATHROOM-

PALLADIAN BLUE, COVENTRY GRAY, CORAL GABLES, MOUNTAIN PEAK WHITE

 

VANITY - Imagine the happy JIG I did, when I went SHOPPING at my favorite used furniture store CIRCA fIN CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA F or a dresser to have made INTO a Bathroom Vanity and INSTEAD found A DRESSER ALREADY MADE INTO A VANITY!!! All I had to do was paint it, inside...'BENJAMIN MOORE "CORAL GABLES" AND THE EXTERIOR "COVENTRY GRAY".

KOHLER ARCHER SINK - This sink by Kohler is the largest drop in sink when it comes to coverage of your vanity top. I knew the top would be just the varnished top of the dresser so wanted as much overlap as possible. LOVE THIS SINK! Under $200 at Lowes.

 

KOHLER DEVONSHIRE TOILET- I have said it before and I will say it again, I think it is worth the few extra pennies to buy a snazzier looking toilet. Come on, it is the "Anchor" of the room...and this new Devonshire uses less water, less space and looks pretty to boot! Price shop - we got this one at Lowes for under $300

 

POP OF COLOR: Many people do not realize that you can do a POP of color...ON another color...you just need to be subtle and LESS IS MORE. I found this frame painted this awesome kind of tangerine-peach color...works perfectly with the Palladian blue.

I agonized, (sorta sounds stupid now) but I spent hours trying to decide whether to go with Brass or Polished Chrome in the master Bathroom. I finally chose the Chrome. Both are timeless, and both would look great but I just did not think that over time the Brass would keep me as happy as the Chrome does. again...so silly. But it mattered at the time.

MEDICINE CHEST AND TABLE- The medicine chest is from Pottery Barn and the little Demi Table is from our new Homegoods! It was $59 and while I intended to paint it, it looks so nice with the cabinet I am leaving it alone.

PRINCETON SOPHOMORE SCONCE FROM SCHOOLHOUSE ELECTRIC

I love standing at my new sink and looking out across the back yard...I can see the Cows next door and the kids and pets running around...It is so peaceful...

The Green Scalloped Mirror (pop of color #2, was a $15 Thrift store find that I spray painted Kelly Green. I LOVE this mirror!!!

IN CLOSING...You may or may not have notices that the Bathroom does not have a door....not usually the way things roll in a Bathroom. Did you know Doors use up 7 square feet of room space? It had always bothered me that our bathroom door had to be closed in order to stand at the sink and so WE decided to go with a barn door, which will slide across the wall next to the sink...we just have to hang that durn door and we are done!!!

12 Oaks Bathroom

Ben and Amanda of the inspiring blog 12 Oaks recently finished remodeling their guest bath and what a transformation it saw! (Bye bye pink tiles and vanity!) Benjamin Moore’s Palladian Blue is the perfect color for the tongue and groove walls! I love that they chose a classic white subway tile for the shower and beautiful marble for the floor, looks amazing! The vanity is awesome too and I love all the accessories–especially the shower curtain! Seriously such a cute bathroom, I love every inch! Gary McBournie

Have you guys checked out the March issue of House Beautiful? It's all about perfect color combos, including a new spin on red, white and blue with this 1828 Nantucket beach cottage designed by Gary McBournie. The Boston interior designer (who also has offices in Nantucket and Palm Beach) actually owns the little cottage, and I think it epitomizes his style: Classic American with a subtle twist on tradition. I just adore the design of living room, which was inspired by the great ticking stripe fabric. He even cut out the blue and red stripe from the fabric and used it as a border on the curtains! LOOVE the paint color too, of course it just happens to by Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue–one of my favorites! The kitchen is too perfect with Benjamin Moore's Covington Blue abound! Model homes aren't usually known for having tons of style, but Utah interior designer Kirsten Krason showed how it's entirely possible when she designed this fantastic space! She wanted the home to have a breezy and fresh vibe, so before anything else she chose Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue for the walls. Love it! Cole Wagner Cabinetry

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving week!! It's nice to be back home after our great vacation to Montana (more about that later)! My favorite thing after a loooong ride in the car?? A loooong hot bath! What a dream it would be to soak away in this beautiful bathroom by Cole Wagner Cabinetry out of Rochester Hills, Michigan, photographed here by Beth Singer. The color on the vanity and ceiling is entirely lovely, and I love the pretty light fixture! Oh and I'll take the chairs too, love those! I'll take a dose of fresh mountain air any day! It surprised me to learn that a pair of aquamarine lamps inspired the color palette of this beautiful mountain home by Atlanta designer John Oetgen. The color is more obvious in the bedroom (painted Palladian Blue) and dining room, but I love how it's used in the living room as well! Compared to the dark-paneled rooms, I just love how open and airy the bedroom feels...I think that's where I would spend all my time! That, or the covered porch! Guest Blogger: Camille from The Vintique Object

Hello, Turquoise Lovers. I'm Camille from The Vintique Object. I'm thrilled to pieces to be guest posting for Erin today because House of Turquoise was the first design blog I ever visited! That is a true story and let me tell you, I was entranced!

In addition to my own design blog, I've recently started a little decorating/organizing business. I am excited to share a recent project -- a little girls' bedroom belonging to six year-old twins.

Here is how the room looked before:

And here is the room after.

Down came the dated 80's wallpaper and the room was professionally painted. You can just see a peek of Benjamin Moore's Palladian Blue on the ceiling. I added a bit of turquoise paint to the Palladian Blue to to make a custom mix for the vintage beds, which were an unsightly electric blue color when I found them.

Behind each bed is a giant bulletin board made from homasote or sound board and covered in burlap and ribbon. The little girls are avid decorators (see stickers below) and this was a good way for them to showcase their artwork and put up posters without ruining the walls with tape, push-pins...and stickers.

I also painted one of their Ikea Malm dressers (removing stickers first) to match the other and added DIY brass ring pulls to dress them up a bit.

Believe it or not, these ring pulls made from hardware store parts! Total cost for each runs about $1.40. I have to thank Sarah M. Dorsey Designs for coming up with this brilliant idea. I just tweaked the idea a bit to keep the pulls from snagging clothes on the inside of the drawer.

On the wall where the dressers were located, I made small vanities/desks flanking a bookcase I snagged from the garage. Above each desk is pegboard painted to mimic the bedding. The pegboard helps the girls to organize their jewelry and and hair accessories.

My goal was to create a fresh, light-filled, and organized space -- not too girly and one that can grow with them. I think turquoise fits the bill for that exactly!
